Among the bands to give up their time to raise money for the Council for the Indigenous People of Oaxaca (CIPO-RFM) were Hello Bastards, Balsall Heathens and Suicide Birds.
To date CIPO-RFM have documented 517 detentions and tortured people, 103 police and paramilitary incursions into their communities, 81 prison orders, 229 penal, civil and commercial processes, 263 people assaulted, 37 death threats and 27 murders.
The money raised will will go towards legal assistance for tyhe imprisoned community members of San Isidro AloÃipam, who stand falsely accused of murdering two San Miguel AloÃipam paramilitaries working for the logging companies involved in destroying the forests of Oaxaca’s Sierra Norte mountain range.
These latest raised funds follow a donation in September 2007 towards the San Isidro AloÃipam radio station from the London Freelance branch of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ). The radio station also doubles as an early warning system against paramilitary attacks for the more remote communities.
