Video: English Defence League Riot in Leicester

Saturday 9 October 2010: The English Defence League (EDL) protest came to Leicester and deteriorated rapidly into racism and violence, ending in running street battles and an attack on a fast food restaurant that terrified local people.

17 people were arrested and ten charged with crimes ranging from assaulting a police officer, carrying an offensive weapon and public order offences. A further three people were later arrested by British Transport Police on a train travelling from Leicester

This video is longer than the usual rushes I put together. This is to document everything I shot that day, from morning to evening, which stands as a very clear account of the day’s events and shows what happens to a city when the EDL arrive, but also what we as journalists go through in order to deliver these types of images to the pulbic.
