Coryton Oil Refinery Blockade

Saturday 16 October 2010: Protestors from various groups came together under the name Crude Awakening and, after giving the police intelligence officers the run-around through the Underground and across the London streets, boarded a train to Stanford le Hope in Essex and marched on the Coryton oil refinery.Coryton supplies all of London’s fuel needs. Initially 12 protestors locked themselves to several transit vans. The remaining 500 protestors descended on the only road leading in or out of the fuel depot and formed human blockades.

On the BBC a spokesperson from Petroplus, the Coryton owners, said the refinery operations ran as normal during the protest. A spokesperson from Crude Awakening said 50 tankers were halted during the seven hour road blocks.
