NUJ Protests Egyptian Press Repression

National Union of Journalists (NUJ) protest at the Egyptian Embassy in London, calling for the release of all detained journalists and an end to the crack-down on media workers. Many have been killed, others, including Peter Greste, Mohamed Fadel Fahmy and Baher Mohamed of Al-Jazeera, have been imprisoned and face 15 years in jail.

Istanbul Unrest

During the recent weeks of unrest in Turkey, the Gazi district of Istanbul saw scenes of particularly violent street battles, as police used maximum force to quell any anti-government mobilisations.
The unrest in Turkey has so far left four people dead and more than 5000 injured. It was also reported six police officers committed suicide. The government assured the public these deaths were not related to the nationwide protests.
